Socialmaxxing describes a person's attempts to improve their social skills. It is one of several -maxxing terms used by incels, all of which describe some form of (attempted) self-improvement.
Often, incels feel their awkwardness, anxiousness, and shyness (perceived or real) are primary factors in why they can't find a romantic or sexual partner. Some of these incels use self-help books, videos, blogs, and forums to learn how to act more confident, friendly, and self-assured in social situations. Learning and practicing these techniques is referred to as socialmaxxing. At times, however, socialmaxxing can cross the line and become about learning how to manipulate people, rather than just how to become more socially adept.
