VU is a gaming acronym popularized within the League of Legends (LoL) community. It describes when Riot Games revamps a champion's appearance, such as models, animations, or splash art, without changing the champion's core abilities or gameplay. A VU makes older champions look more polished and up to date with LoL's evolving art style, ensuring they fit in visually with newer champions and modern graphics standards.
The term became common in the early 2010s, when Riot began rolling out large-scale visual overhauls for fan-favorite champions. Players, streamers, and LoL forums quickly adopted "VU" as shorthand to discuss or speculate about upcoming redesigns. Mostly League fans use the acronym, but other gamers or online communities talking about character or model redesigns may use VU.
