The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) created by Yuga Labs. Each of these 10,000 NFTs includes a different, procedurally-generated profile pic of a cartoon ape. For some reason, many people like BAYC NFTs and are willing to spend silly amounts of money to buy them.
Yuga Labs released the BAYC collection in April 2021. In just 12 hours, customers had purchased every ape. Now, celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Fallon, and Madonna enjoy showing off their bored apes via music videos, television, and social media. Yuga Labs released a follow-up collection, the Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), in August 2021. This collection was available primarily to those who had already purchased bored apes.
