Beat is a slang term that refers to the act of applying makeup to the face or another part of the body. It can refer to either men or women putting on makeup (or having makeup put on them), but most often refers to women.
The term is commonly used on social media as a hashtag (#) with pictures of makeup being applied to a person. The term gained popularity in 2015 as fashion bloggers began using it on Instagram. Beat can be used for poor or good makeup jobs or jobs that involved a lot of makeup. However, it is most often used to describe spectacular makeup jobs that are close to life-changing.
