Denying is a gaming term used in Defense of the Ancients (DOTA). It refers to when a player kills a friendly unit in order to prevent enemy heroes from getting the last hit and acquiring gold or XP.
Denying occurs when your own creep's health is below 50%. In order to prevent your enemy from benefitting from their death, you can "deny" them and kill the creeps yourself. Denying an enemy gives you an advantage in experience and gold and helps significantly slow down an enemy's farming.
