When someone says that they died after seeing or hearing something funny (or ridiculous), they laughed so hard they thought they'd die. It is the same as dead and is the past tense version of the dying term.
You will usually see someone say "died" in reply to a funny text, online message, or social media post. For example, if your friend texts you a video of her mom awkwardly dancing, you might reply with "Died" or "OMG, I died."
Died is just one of many slang terms people use to describe something funny. Some other notable ones include LOL, Haha, LMAO, and ROFL.
