ESL is an international Esports league (Electronic Sports League) that hosts video game tournaments around the world each year, such as IEM and the ESL Pro Tour. Savvy Games Group acquired ESL in 2022, officially changing its name to "ESL Gaming" (it's still often referred to as "ESL").

Origin of ESL

ESL was founded in November 2000 in Cologne, Germany. It has since become a global league and the longest-running eSports league.

Most eSports gamers are acquainted with ESL since it organizes global competitions many of them stream via Twitch and even watch in movie theaters. ESL organizes competitions for many games and partners with various publishers, including Valve, Microsoft, Riot Games, and Blizzard Entertainment.
