HUD

An acronym that is typically a military term, but also used in flight simulators and multiplayer games; refers to user interface panels that provide visual overlays such as mini maps, targeting crosshairs, inventory items, and other useful information.

HUD is an acronym people may use when messaging to ask another person how they are doing. They typically use it at the beginning of a conversation to check in with someone, whether it's been a day or a year.

For example, you might see your friend is online and message her, "HUD? U coming to the party tonight? Everyone will be so happy to see you!" Or, your friend may text you out of the blue, "hey man! its been 2 long. hud?"

HUD is one of many ways to quickly ask how someone is doing. Other options include HAY, HRU, and ruok.
