Insurrection Barbie

What is an insurrection barbie?

A woman with ultra-conservative beliefs

Insurrection barbie is a name applied to women who have very conservative beliefs (including supporting the January 6th U.S. Capitol riots) and have an appearance similar to a stereotypical Barbie doll (thin and blonde hair). People with moderate and liberal beliefs primarily use the term as an insult.

It is unclear who first coined the term, but it was first made popular in 2021 when online users criticized Jenna Ryan for her participation in the Capitol riots on January 6th, 2021. Before she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and served time in federal prison, her tweets about the riots showed little remorse, which drew the ire of many tweeple.

Maren Morris and Brittany Aldean Controversy

Insurrection barbie surged in popularity again in August 2022 when Country singer Maren Morris called Brittany Aldean (wife of Country singer Jason Aldean) an "Insurrection Barbie" on Twitter. Morris had taken offense to Aldean's comments about gender identity, and a Twitter beef ensued.
