Inward Nine

What does inward nine mean?

Last nine holes of an 18-hole golf course

Inward nine refers to holes 10 through 18 of an 18-hole golf course. It is preceded by the "outward nine" or "front nine", which refers to the first 9 holes of the course.

18-hole golf courses are commonly divided into two halves by design as the "front nine" lead outward from the clubhouse and the "back nine" lead inward to the clubhouses. If you are only playing on a 9-hole golf course the inward nine phrase would not be used.
