Kneecapped

What does kneecapped mean?

Greatly damaged

Kneecapped is when someone or something has been dealt a damaging blow. For example, if a player performs poorly, effectively losing a game for his team, a fan might say, "Dang, Johnson kneecapped the team tonight."

People often use kneecapped online, especially on social media, in messages, and in real life (IRL), when describing crippling damage someone or something has bestowed (accidentally or on purpose) upon someone else. For example, if your friend spreads gossip to ruin another friend's relationship, you might say, "Sabrina kneecapped Josh's relationship by spilling the tea about his past girlfriends."

Origin of kneecapped

The slang term "kneecapped" originated from the painful and debilitating experience of having your kneecaps damaged. Due to its effectiveness, gang members, mafia henchmen, and military specialists often target kneecaps to neutralize and bring great pain to targets via gunshot or a more blunt weapon. Eventually, people began using kneecapped to describe how others deal significant figurative blows, such as direct insults, self-sabotage, and spreading rumors.

Tracy kneecapped her chances to get the promotion when she bailed on the meeting yesterday
