MCPE

What is MCPE in gaming?

Minecraft Pocket Edition

Minecraft players use MCPE to mean Minecraft Pocket Edition. This now-defunct version of the game was the basis of Minecraft Bedrock Edition (MCBE).

MCPE was available for mobile devices, such as iPhones and Android tablets. Mojang Studios (Minecraft's developer) ported MCPE to Windows and other mobile platforms, but initially used different names (such as Minecraft Fire TV Edition) for those versions of the game.

Eventually, Mojang unified Pocket Edition and its variants under the "simple" name Minecraft. At the same time, Mojang renamed the original, PC-only version of the game from Minecraft to Minecraft Java Edition (MCJE).

This, as you might expect, still left players scratching their heads. So to avoid any additional confusion, players began referring to the game formerly known as MCPE, and all its variants, as Minecraft Bedrock Edition - because it runs on the Bedrock Engine.
