ME

What does ME stand for in gaming?

Mass Effect

Gamers use the acronym ME to refer to the Mass Effect series. In these popular action RPGs, players travel the Milky Way galaxy, fight aliens, and make choices that determine the galaxy's fate.

BioWare released the first ME in 2007. Two sequels, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, were released in 2010 and 2012. Gamers often refer to these sequels as ME2 and ME3.

In all three games, players play as Commander Shepherd, a BA human soldier. Shepherd leads a ragtag group of humans and aliens against the Reapers, a race of sentient spaceships that periodically reset life in the Milky Way. Along the way, players make significant choices that determine the series's ending (sort of, it's a whole thing) and, more importantly, who Commander Shepherd smooches.
