People use MFWTK (my friend wants to know) when asking embarrassing or controversial questions, to which their "friend" wants to know the answer. The referenced "friend," of course, likely doesn't exist. They are just an imaginary cover for the person asking the question, who wants to get answers without feeling like too much of a dope.
While MFWTK is used on many social media platforms, it's most prevalent on Reddit, within the r/myfriendwantstoknow sub. There, question-askers almost always preface their questions with MFWTK, even though everyone knows there is no "friend" involved.
