A quarantini is any homemade cocktail enjoyed during a period of quarantine or self-isolation. While the term quarantini originated on a 2005 episode of the TV show Scrubs, it gained increased prominence and relevance during 2020's COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Scrubs episode, titled "My Quarantine," J.D. and the gang are forced to quarantine after encountering a patient who may have contracted SARS. J.D.'s ex-girlfriend, Danni Sullivan, is part of the show's quaranteam, and it is she who suggests that the group indulges in some quarantinis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, social media users coined and latched onto many new quarantine- and coronavirus-related slang terms. (See also: quaranteam and quaranfifteen.) Some social media users might share pictures of and recipes for their coronaritas, but quarantini is clearly the superior term for a quarantine-time cocktail.
