To swipe left on someone or something means that you reject or disagree with it. The saying comes from Tinder, an online dating app where people touch their phone screen to swipe right or left on a user's profiles to indicate if they are attracted to him or her.
Tinder was released in 2012 and became one of the most popular dating networks. It introduced the swiping techniques for providing feedback. When two users swipe right (approve) on each other in the app, a match is made, and Tinder notifies the users of the mutual interest.
However, when a user swipes left on a user's profile, he is telling Tinder that he's not attracted to that user. People back using "swipe left" as a way to quickly shut something down, whether it be a blind date suggestion from their mom or to say that they think that pair of shoes is ugly.
