TGIF

What does TGIF stand for?

Thank goodness it's Friday

TGIF is an expression of gratitude that the weekend has finally come, ending the work week. For example, if you are having a tough week, you might text your friend, "I'm so done with work, TGIF!"

While TGIF dates back to at least the early-1940s, it is unclear who coined it. TGIF then gained prominence as a restaurant chain (TGI Friday's) and Friday night ABC TV lineup in the 1990s.

You will likely see TGIF in texts, messages, and social media. For example, your friend might post a selfie at a bar on Instagram, captioned with "TGIF!"
