AIGC

What kind of content does AIGC stand for?

Artificial intelligence generated content

AIGC is text, image, video, audio, or other creative output produced by AI tools instead of manually created by humans. It is widely used in industries like marketing, gaming, publishing, and software development, where users enter prompts into AI tools to help speed up workflows and inspire new ideas (to the chagrin of some critics). People may also refer to AIGC as GenAI.

Origin of AIGC

The exact origin of the "AIGC" term is unclear, but it is a variation of the UGC and HGC acronyms, which refer to content generated by humans instead of algorithms trained on massive datasets. The term gained traction in the early 2020s during the rapid rise of tools like ChatGPT (CGPT), Midjourney, and DALL·E, and quickly became a buzzword in tech and creative circles.

AIGC is prevalent in various contexts as people use AI to write emails, generate art, compose music, and even produce virtual influencers (but not Slang.net entries, of course). While AIGC is embraced by many, some critics point out the dangers of adopting technology that mimics and replaces humans.
