What does AL stand for?

American League

A professional sports acronym for one of the leagues that make up Major League Baseball, or MLB.

The league consists of 15 teams and has the Designated Hitter position unlike the National League, or NL, which makes up the other half of MLB. The winner of the AL faces the winner of the NL in the World Series.
