American League Division Series

An acronym that often appears during MLB's postseason and stands for American League Division Series.

The acronym stands for the division playoff series for the AL, which was permanently implemented in 1995. It is a best-of-5 series that is played by teams that have either won their division or the wild card. There are two division series in the AL, the winners of those two series play each other in the American League Championship Series. The winner of that goes on to the World Series to play for the championship.
