Alec Guinness

What does alec guinness mean?

Out-of-bounds

Alec Guinness is a golf slang term for out-of-bounds. The name comes from the OB acronym for out-of-bounds and its similarity to Obi-Wan Kenobi a Jedi Knight played by actor Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars.

In golf, the player's ball must remain in the specified field of play (marked by whites stakes) or else he or she will be penalized. If he hits the whole ball out-of-bounds than he takes a one-stroke penalty and places the ball as close to the spot from which he hit the ball. Hitting an Alec Guinness usually leads to inflated scores such as a "snowman" or "abominable snowman." The term could also be known as Ewan McGregor since he played Obi-Wan in the more recent Star Wars installments.
