Clapper

What is a clapper in hockey?

A slapshot

In hockey, a "clapper" is a powerful slapshot, usually one that is fast, loud, and difficult for a goalie to stop. The term comes from the sound a hockey stick makes when it hits the puck with full force (clap!) and has been popular in hockey circles since at least the 1990s. Broadcasters, players, and fans often use it to hype up a player’s shooting ability or to describe an impressive goal scored from a long distance.

Today, clapper is commonly used by hockey enthusiasts at all levels, from youth leagues to the NHL, as well as in online discussions, highlight reels, and sports media. For example, they may say, "he fired a clapper," or they may even call a player with a great slapshot "a real clapper."

Example

did you see that goal last night?

unreal power, the goalie didn’t even move
srsly, that shot was filthy
