Creepypastas are horror stories that are shared on the Internet. This slang term is a portmanteau of "creepy" and "copypasta."
Originally, creepypastas were typically written and posted anonymously, either in blogs or forums. This allowed other users to copy and repost them elsewhere - making them a variant of copypasta.
Over time, however, creepypasta has become its own increasingly elaborate genre of Internet fiction. The word now encompasses nearly all brief horror stories posted on the Internet, including stories written by named authors.
