Doge is a misspelling of dog done on purpose to be funny. It orignated from a meme of a Shiba Inu dog that gained popularity on the social site Tumblr.
The dog photo originally featured a dog sitting on a couch with raised eyebrows and glaring eyes. The picture of the Shiba Inu on the couch was posted on Reddit with dog spelled "doge" in the title. After that, users took off with the meme and created all sorts of captions. The misspelling of dog comes from an episode of the puppet show "Homestar Runner."
