An energy vampire is a person who drains you of your emotional energy. They may be a friend, co-worker, family member, etc., that sucks your emotional availability dry (accidentally or intentionally).
For example, you may have a friend who is an energy vampire because she uses you as an emotional crutch to make herself feel better when her love life predictably falls into shambles. Or, you may have a brother who constantly deals with anxiety and acts as an energy vampire because he relies on you to help him battle through his panic episodes.
Some characteristics of an energy vampire may include always wanting to be the center of attention, they don't reciprocate care for how you are feeling, they are never at fault, and they hyperbolize everything (get it?). If an energy vampire is draining you, you will probably need to set boundaries with them or cut them out of your life entirely if they don't respect your needs.
