Final Boy

What is the final boy in horror movies?

The last male to fight the killer

Horror fans reverently refer to the last male alive to confront (typically fight) the main antagonist (the killer) as the "final boy." It is the lesser-known counterpart to the common final girl trope prevalent in slasher films.

While final boys are not as prevalent as final girls, they have still appeared in many horror films throughout the years. Some examples of final boy movies include:

  • The Evil Dead (1981) - Ash Williams is the final boy (played by Bruce Campbell)
  • Fright Night (1985) - Charley Brewster is the final boy (played by William Ragsdale)
  • Child's Play (1988) - Andy Barclay is the final boy (played by Alex Vincent)
  • Pet Sematary (1989) - Louis Creed is the final boy (played by Dale Midkiff)
  • The Faculty (1998) - Casey Connor is the final boy (played by Elijah Wood)
  • Final Destination (2000) - Alex Browning is the final boy (played by Devon Sawa)
  • Get Out (2017) - Chris Washington is the final boy (played by Daniel Kaluuya)
