A hot take is a term that refers to a controversial opinion. It is referred to as "hot" because it goes against the majority of opinions and can rile people up into a frenzy.

A hot take is often made on social media in regards to politics, sports, religion, movies, TV, and other related topics that people take personally. The opinion usually isn't thought out real well and is made primarily to rile up others.
