Hot Vax Summer is a play on the phrase Hot Girl Summer, which was a popular way to refer to the summer of 2019. Fans of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who call the artist Hot Girl Meg and refer to themselves as hotties, dubbed summer 2019 Hot Girl Summer. In August 2019, Stallion released an actual song titled Hot Girl Summer, which became the summer's unofficial anthem.
The "Hot" in Hot Vax Summer and Hot Girl Summer does not refer to the summer's temperatures. (Though yes, it has been plenty hot most places.)
