In basketball, a jumper is a shot where the player jumps as they shoot. It may be a shot for two points (typically outside the key but within the three-point line) or three points (beyond the three-point line).
Jumper is one of the most common basketball terms. People use it when playing a pick-up game, announcers use it when calling games, fans use it to comment on players' shots, and players use it to describe their shots.
If you are a basketball fan, you might also hear several variations of jumper. For example, a step-back or fadeaway jumper is a jumper athletes use to create more space from the defender when they shoot. Also, when a player makes a jumper, they "bury a jumper."
