What does mention mean?

A reference to a Twitter username in a tweet

Mention is a Twitter term for a tweet that mentions a Twitter username, which shows up as notification. The mention occurs when a person tweets at a person or replies to another person.

When you visit a person's profile page on Twitter, the mentions do not show up, but you can search for tweets mentioning a person's Twitter handle in the search box. The mention term is often seen as "RIP to your mentions" or "RIP my mentions."
