A tweet is a term for a post by a user on Twitter, a social networking and news service where posts are limited to 140 characters. The term may also be used as a verb to refer to the act of posting on Twitter.
Tweets can be seen and created by Twitter users but only seen by non-Twitter users. A Twitter user's followers will automatically see his or her posts, whereas other Twitter users can search for tweets, often through the use of hashtags (#). Tweets may include images such as GIFs or JPEGs, links to videos, and the previously mentioned hashtags to reference trending topics and help people find a user's tweet. Tweets can also be retweeted (a user re-posts your tweet to his followers), liked, or replied to.
