Techies use QCOM as shorthand for Qualcomm (which is itself short for Quality Communications). This American tech company specializes in producing hardware and software used for wireless communications and networking.
QCOM was founded in 1985, by seven former employees of the tech company Linkabit. Led by CEO Irwin Jacobs, QCOM began researching and producing breakthroughs in wireless technology. The first of these was the development of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), which became the basis for modern cellular networks.
