Techies are people who are interested in and knowledgable about technology. Most often, people use techie to refer to those who know a lot about computers and related tech.
The origin of techie
In the 1960s, people in the U.S. began referring to technical college students as techies. Around the same time, the British began referring to service technicians as techies. Both meanings morphed a little over time, and solidified in their current state around the 1980s.
What do techies do?
Techies love learning about and fiddling with various kinds of technology. Some techies specialize in a particular field, while others know a little about a lot. Because computers and smart devices are now so prevalent, most techies are familiar with those devices.
