In mana-based CCGs like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering (MTG), to ramp means to permanently acquire extra mana sources. Ramp decks use the early game to accelerate their mana production, so they can play high-cost spells in the mid and late game.
Ramp decks are powerful because they "break" one of the most fundamental rules of mana-based CCGs - which is that players acquire only one additional mana source each turn. While most "normal" decks can produce only four mana on turn four, a ramp deck may be able to produce six, seven, or even more mana, allowing it to cast more powerful spells.
How do I ramp in MTG and Hearthstone?
In MTG, players can ramp by playing creatures or artifacts that tap for mana or by playing spells that put additional lands into play under their control. In Hearthstone, players can ramp by playing creatures or spells that add Mana Crystals to their Mana Pool.
