Reverse Rizz

What is reverse rizz?

Repulsiveness

Reverse rizz is a playful Gen Z slang term that describes someone doing or saying something so awkward, cringe, or off-putting that it instantly kills any attraction or charm they might've had. While "rizz" is all about smooth charisma and flirt game, "reverse rizz" is the exact opposite; it's when someone unintentionally repels a crush instead of drawing them in (e.g., bad jokes, weird flexes, etc.).

The term started gaining popularity around 2023–2024 among Gen Zers, evolving from the rise of "rizz" culture on platforms like TikTok and Twitch, where users began parodying themselves and each other with "zero rizz," "NPC energy," and eventually "reverse rizz." Teens and young adults who enjoy dissecting the chaos of dating, flirting, or simply navigating social spaces most often use the term.

Example

So how did your date with Tyler go?
Ugh, he said “let’s circle back” during dinner like it was a Zoom meeting
Nooo. That’s reverse rizz at its finest
Right? I was into him, and then boom—instant ick
