A side hustle is a second (or third or fourth) job someone takes on in addition to their primary job, to earn extra cash. Usually, a side hustle requires less time and commitment than a person's primary job - making it something they can do "on the side" in their free time.
For example, an engineer who drives for Uber on the weekends is using Uber as their side hustle. Or, a barista who opens an Etsy shop is using the Etsy shop as their side hustle.
Some people engage in side hustles only temporarily, to supplement their income for a time. Others start side hustles with the intention of turn them into their full-time job, if the side hustle becomes profitable enough.
