Twink

In online gaming, a twink is a low-level player who has been given powerful equipment and items. These items make the player stronger than players of their level should be.

You're most likely to encounter this slang term while playing MMORPGs, in which experienced players often gift strong items to their noob friends, to help the noobs progress through the game. This process (as well as any additional assistance the experienced player provides) is often referred to as twinking.

What is the origin of twink?

Twink's exact origins are unknown. However, it's possible the term derives from:

• The "twinkling" flag appended to rare items in some older video games
• The gay slang term twink (used to refer to a fit, youthful-looking man)
