When you see the symbol ΘΔ in someone's social media bio, it means they are a therian. You might see therians use this symbol on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms, to identify their kinship with an animal.
What is a therian?
A therian is a person who believes they are spiritually or instinctually connected to a non-human animal. Therians often self-identify as the animal with which they feel connected, and they use their "connection" to explain animal-like behaviors that they display.
Why does ΘΔ mean therian?
In 2003, users on The Werelist forums created the ΘΔ symbol to represent therians. The symbol uses the Greek letter Θ because it is the first letter in the Greek word therion (which means "wild animal"), and the Greek letter Δ because it symbolizes change. Combined, the letters symbolize a therian's "shifts" into animal-like thinking and behavior.
Therians also commonly combine the letters in the ΘΔ symbol into a single, overlapping shape. You may see this version of the symbol in images or as IRL jewelry or tattoos.
