1Q

What does 1Q mean in sports?

First quarter

In sports, "1Q" is the first quarter of a game involving four quarters, such as football or basketball. For example, your friend may text you, "Did you see that amazing touchdown (TD) catch in the 1Q?!?"

You will see 1Q most often in the sports areas of Twitter. These are usually psyched fans reacting to something extraordinary performed in the first quarter of a game. Or, they may be analyzing a player's or team's performance in the first quarter.

However, Twitter is not the only social site you might encounter 1Q. You may see it on TikTok or Facebook or in online messages and texts.

You may also see 1Q in contexts other than sports, namely the business world. In these cases, people use 1Q to refer to the first quarter of the fiscal year (although they usually use Q1).
