Bleisure is the blending of work trips with personal relaxation or exploration (the term comes from a combination of "business" and "leisure"). For example, you might travel to Miami from Minnesota in January for a conference, and after your meetings, you extend your stay through the weekend to enjoy the warm weather, tour the city, try local cuisine, or visit attractions.
The "bleisure" trend has gained traction since the late 2010s as remote work (WFH, WFX, etc.) and flexible schedules allow professionals to maximize their travel experiences by mixing professional responsibilities with personal downtime. It's especially popular among healthcare, public administration, and technology workers (particularly among millennials and younger) looking to unwind and make business trips feel less routine without taking extra vacation days.
Origin of bleisure
It is unclear who first coined the slang term "bleisure," but its earliest publication dates back to 2009 when The Future Laboratory (a market research, trend, and intelligence service) noted it in their Trend Briefing publication. Since then, people have increasingly used it online, especially on social sites, to share their bleisure experiences.
