The Eagles have a 1st and goal from the 2

In football, "brotherly love" is a play where the quarterback hikes the ball and then is shoved forward into the offensive and defensive line by teammates (usually the running back) to gain yards. The NFL team Philadelphia Eagles popularized the play in 2023 in short-yardage situations, like on the goal line or 4th down, to gain one or two yards.
You will likely only hear brotherly shove in football contexts, including when discussing football on social media or watching on TV. For example, a fan may complain, "Ugh, the brotherly shove is so anticlimactic and unfair. The Eagles basically start at 1st and 9 or 8 every time."
Origin of brotherly shove
Many NFL fans credit Redditor CrackSammiches with coining "brotherly shove" as the name for the play. It is a play on "brotherly love" (nickname for the city of Philadelphia) and an alternative to tuch push.
The play became controversial since the Eagles executed it so successfully. Many opponents deemed it unfair, and fans complained that it was boring.
