A baseball statistic that refers to a team's defensive efficiency.
The DER indicates how good a team is at recording defensive outs from defensive opportunities. To calculate the DER, you divide the total number of hits allowed in play (no home runs) by the total number of defensive opportunities (any ball hit in play but not including home runs) and subtract from one.
