Hangman

What does hangman mean?

Golf score of 9

Hangman is a score of 9 on a golf hole. The term comes from the resemblance of the number 9 to a person hanging from a noose in the fill-in-the-blanks game.

The "hangman" golf score is plain terrible, even worse than the snowman score. To put it in perspective, most holes have a par of 3 or 4 and a hangman is a 9. The hangman score often comes from drives that go way off course, shots into sand traps or water, or a putting meltdown on the green.

Example

Nice work with bouncing back from that hangman, now you are only 3 over par

These types of shots lead to a hangman score
