A Heather is a person, typically a female, who everyone is in love with. The person is physically attractive and popular due to their likable personality or their looks and meanness.
Where does Heather come from?
There are several origins for the Heather term. One is the 1989 black comedy Heathers where an outcast student murders popular girls (three named Heather) from a ruling high school clique and stages them as suicides.
Another, more modern origin is from Conan Gray's song "Heather," which is about being in love with someone who is infatuated with a more desirable person, aka, a Heather. Gray's song became a meme on TikTok, where users shared their similar experiences with Heathers and/or how they want to be a Heather.
Is being a Heather a good thing?
Being a Heather can be good or bad, depending on the context in which it is used. For example, if the meaning comes from the 1980s movie, being a Heather means you are popular and good-looking but a bully and a rich brat.
However, if the meaning comes from Gray's song and the TikTok meme, Heather means you are desirable and very well-liked with people wanting to be you or be with you. This is one of the best compliments you can receive.
