A notification on your device or on a social site may be referred to as a "notif." The abbreviation is typically used by teenagers online and in text messages.
With all of the different devices, social sites, and apps, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the bevy of notifications you receive. They may be alerting you to missed phone calls, unread messages, new social media posts, software updates waiting to be installed, etc.
As a way to quickly refer to these notifications, especially social ones on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook, teenagers abbreviated "notifications" as "notifs." You may see tweens, teens, and young adults brag about all the notifs they receive after their video goes viral or lament that their tweet got ratioed.
