SCP

What is SCP?

Special Containment Procedures Foundation

Fans of weird Internet fiction use SCP as shorthand for the Special Containment Procedures Foundation, a fictional organization that investigates, captures, and contains paranormal phenomena. SCP also stands for Secure, Contain, Protect, which is the organization's motto.

The SCP Foundation wiki documents the organization's efforts to contain cryptids, ghosts, haunted buildings, multiversal incursions, and other "anomalies." The wiki has been active since 2008, and it contains "files" on thousands of unusual creatures, objects, and events.

While trawling the SCP wiki or related forums, you may see fans refer to anomalies as SCPs. This is because each anomaly has an associated numeric designation, which always starts with SCP. For example, SCP-3008 is an IKEA that has an infinite interior, and SCP-294 is a coffee vending machine that can dispense any liquid.

The SCP wiki has also been the inspiration for many video games. For example, the games SCP - Containment Breach, SCP: Pandemic, and Control are inspired by stories posted to the SCP wiki.
