Stan is a name for a person who is obsessed with someone, like a celebrity or athlete, or something, like a TV show or comic. The term comes from Eminem's 2000 song "Stan" which is about an obsessed fan writing to Eminem.
A stan is so infatuated with the famous person that he or she may even be compared to a stalker. However, the term is typically used in jest and not meant to actually accuse someone of stalking. The term may also be used as a verb when referring to someone who is acting obsessed.
