Xian is an abbreviation for a person who identifies as a Christian. People often use it online, in messages and on social media, or in text messages.
For example, your friend may text you, "How was your blind date? Is she xian?" Or, you might tweet, "I can't believe so many xians are obsessed with politics. God is in control!"
Is xian offensive?
Some people use xian simply because it's fewer characters than typing out the whole word. However, some people use the abbreviation in a derogatory and dismissive manner. Typically, you will have to know the context in which it is used to determine if it is meant to be offensive.
