Teen girls use the phrase "boyfriend air" while discussing their appearance on TikTok. In these girls' minds, being near their BF messes with their makeup, hair, and complexion, causing them to look "ugly." Therefore, these girls posit that the air surrounding their BFs must contain some sort of strange, de-beautifying substance. (This idea is, of course, mostly meant to be a joke.)

Origin of boyfriend air

Boyfriend air is an offshoot of school air, a term used when describing how the air inside schools negatively affects teen TikTokers' appearance. TikToker @h0neyymel coined the term boyfriend air in a December 2022 video.
