Double Dogleg

What does double dogleg mean?

A golf hole with a fairway that has two bends

A double dogleg is a golf hole with a fairway that bends twice to the left or the right. The name comes from the two bends in the fairway that both resemble the ankle of a dog.

A double dogleg course is designed to make a hole more difficult, even more so than a regular dogleg course. It is usually longer and obscure the green from the tee to force the golfer to take more shots. Depending on the hazards the hole is more challenging than direct line-of-sight holes which are mostly straight on from the tee to the hole.

Example

Hole 9 is a double dogleg par 5 and quite the doozy
Dogleg left hole on the left and double dogleg hole on the right
Dogleg left hole on the left and double dogleg hole on the right
